MARIA ELISA CANTU
SAN JUAN – Maria Elisa Cantu, 80, died Friday, November 17, 2017, at Solara Hospital in Harlingen.
Born in San Juan, she had lived there most of her life and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish. Ms. Cantu was employed by PSJA ISD for 30 years as a cafeteria manager at Doedyns Elementary.
She is preceded in death by a son, Rene Lopez; a daughter, San Juanita Lopez; her parents, Castulo and Benigna Camarillo; a brother, Ines Camarillo; and a niece, Carolina Villalobos.
Maria is survived by five children, Rebecca L. Arce, Ricardo (Terry) Lopez, Ramiro Lopez, Roberto Lopez, all of Weslaco, Rolando (Virginia) Lopez of San Juan; six grandchildren, Krystal Lopez, Vanessa Lopez, Stephanie (Kasey) Mata, Kassandra Arce, Jennifer Arce, Bianca (Joshua) Garcia; eight great-grandchildren, Michael Lopez, Michelle Rodriguez, Valerie Guzman, James Guzman, RJ Guzman, George Elizondo Jr., Isabella Elizondo, Bailey Garcia; and nine siblings, Castulo Camarillo Jr. of Houston, Paulo Camarillo of Kingsville, Jose Angel Camarillo, Guadalupe Arrellanes, Ernestina Villalobos, all of Elgin, IL, Roberto Camarillo of McAllen, Matias Camarillo, Carmela Long, both of San Juan, Ignacia Alvarado of San Antonio.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, November 19, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2017, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at San Juan Cemetery.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home.
